[Journal Club] Neutrino Flavor Pendulum Reloaded: The Case of Fast Pairwise Conversion
Manu George
The interaction of neutrinos among themselves in a neutrino rich environment can result in fast conversion of their flavors, known as collective neutrino flavor conversion. Dynamics of this phenomenon is governed by angle-dependent density matrices of flavor lepton numbers. Since the underlying equation of motion is highly non-linear, similar looking neutrino distribution can lead to completely different outcomes. In the article arXiv:2109.14627, the authors have developed a novel diagnostic tool to predict the depth of flavor conversion without solving the evolution equations, by invoking analogy with a gyroscopic pendulum, for a two flavor neutrino system with a homogeneous and isotropic distribution. In this talk, I will present the contents of the above mentioned paper.
